Why Call It Per-Bast?
The site name--Per-Bast--is based on Middle Egyptian hieroglyphs for the city that was known to the Greeks as Bubastis (PiBeseth in the Old Testament Bible). "Per" was a word that can be translated as "Domain", the hieroglyph of which can be seen embracing the text boxes on these pages. "Bast" was the name of the chief local divinity, a female feline-headed goddess who I've written about extensively in my Bast section of the site. Since this was going to be an Internet domain about Bast, I thought the name appropriate. Ironic, even. Don't you think?
